Rolex Lady Datejust “Birch Wood”

At WatchWorks we love the unexpected – and this one definitely fits the bill. Up for sale and directly from the first owner is this stunning little gem: the Rolex Lady-Datejust reference 6917 from 1980, fitted with a rare and one of the most warm and charming dials Rolex ever made – The birch wood dial.

Housed in a 26mm 18k yellow gold Oyster case with a classic fluted bezel and paired with the iconic (lady) President bracelet, this watch is elegant through and through. But the real showstopper is of course that dial. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Rolex briefly flirted with organic materials – birch, mahogany, walnut – and produced these incredible wooden dials in very limited numbers. The birch version, with its light-toned grain and warm texture, is one of the rarest. Each dial was different, meaning no two watches are exactly alike. Just have a look at those gorgeous wood patterns inside the dial, to me personally it reminds me of mid century Birch wood cabinets, or luxury car dashboards.. This particular Lady-Datejust is in excellent condition and comes as a full set – original Rolex inner and outer box, booklets, and even the original punched warranty paper are still with the watch. It’s powered by the automatic Caliber 2030, a solid workhorse of a movement that keeps this elegant timepiece ticking reliably. Understated, but definitely full of character, rare but wearable every day, this 18k Lady-Datejust “BIrch Wood” is a wonderful blend of style and rare 1980’s horology.

The entire movement was fully serviced, the 18k case and President bracelet cleaned, and provided with a careful polishing and brushing, and as always she will be sold with our extensive two year warranty and is now ready for a new Lady owner.
